about me
You expose yourself by the (non-)presentation of your art. Your mood, mindset, outlook, attitude, feelings, values and fears are featured alongside it, declaring your soul aloud. Your art manifests your soul to me, therefore move me, stir me, enfuriate me, amuse me, inspire me, offend me, please me, astound me, soothe me, awe me, impress me or vex me... but please, leave me not indifferent and unaffected by it.
I am Carl (pronounced Kah-rill) Kirstein, raised in KwaZulu Natal's midlands, trained in Stellenbosch, prepared in Kathu and now established in Pretoria. I commit mechanical engineering for Exxaro Resources.
My general "aesthetic" approach is to look for abtraction within mundane/ordinary subjects. This tends me toward tight crops so that the subject becomes its own context with patterns, rhythms and textures within it to tantalise the eyes. I especially like juxaposing contrasting textures, patterns, hues and tones.
In photographing people, I hate posing. Instead of "beautifying" someone, my purpose is to capture the essence of the person. Thereby exposing the beauty of who you really are.
Phi 4:8 Finally, my brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are right, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, meditate on these things.
