Aardklop 2007

The music colours the air with a patriotic hue of badly executed karaoke songs. The smell of beer, sweat and boereworsrolle belches a sickly mirth. The crowd pulses, weaves, sways and swirls with complex dance within its own current, while the earth beats like a drum under their flitting feet. Each person is but a shadow quickly fading away.

"Take a picture of me!" Some would cry "why?" would I reply "I don't know who you are and how to get the photo to you". The drunken cloud takes a few seconds to evaporate and then they realise that it is a futile exercise they requested. If I may answer my own question: I think you want the photo so that somebody somewhere oneday will look at the photo and know that you were here. It is part of your legacy and remembrance that you so long to impart to the world. "I was not merely an insignificant shadow, I left my mark and I am remembered". Just a hint for you oh passing shadow: The longer you stand still in my sight, the better the exposure I get of you.
