Great shot, the treatment of the rock tones in the picture makes it look a lot like an Ansel Adams (personal hero) photograph.
I think the only way you'll be able to get rid of the black line is to make another layer in photoshop, correct the curves on the point where the ridge meets the sky and slowly etch it away with a low opacity soft brush. But then you probably also couldn't enter it for a competition either...

Carl Kirstein: you will be able to enter it for a competion... as long as you don't clone or heal the guys are generally not too bothered (it depends on the judge though).
